PatagoniaPatagonia Nine Trails

MSRP $110

GRIP/TRACTION- They were good on the trail until it got muddy.  I went running on dry ground and the traction was good, but when it got a bit muddy there was not enough. These shoes would be better for a light hiker than a real trail runner. They're just too heavy and are lacking the intense grip needed for more hard core trail running. I didn't have a chance to try them in the snow, but I would expect they would perform the same.

FIT- There was a large toe box, which was good for trail running.  I have a tendency to trip and stub my toes and the large toe box protected them.  It also game me enough room to move my toes around comfortably. The shoes, as far as width goes, was fine.  I have fairly wide feet and I seemed to have no problem with them. It took me only about two or three runs to break them in. They really started to loosen up the more I ran in them.

RUNABILITY- The shoe was a bit heavy, so it could be a good shoe for a first time trail runner, that is not so worried about speed.  Also someone who wants a shoe that will last a long time. For a light hiker, this shoe would be perfect.

APPEARANCE- The shoes were not my favorite looking, but the grey is nice. If they were gray and maybe a brighter color they would be more appealing. I’m sure there’s people who would prefer the more subdued colors, but I found the design overall a bit boring.

OVERALL RATING- For trail running 2.5, For light hiking 4.0
