This was my first time to do the Cache Valley Sprint. The venue was very nice with an outdoor pool swim, great temperatures and a good community. This was a great event where there were at least 50 people that chose this event as their first attempt at triathlon.
I really like outdoor pool swims. It is nice to swim in 50 meter pools rather than doing more laps in a 25 meter pool. The swim went smoothly and the transition area was well positioned for safety and a good bike out. One thing that is really unique about Cache Valley is that in a few minutes you can be on a road with little to no traffic cruising past horses, cows, and fields. These are classic farm roads. This is very unique and something I recall from a couple Cache Valley century rides that I have done in years past. This event had a challenge about a 200 ft. section was torn up and so it was on dirt. They wetted it down to limit the dust, and besides having a dirty bike after it was not a big deal.
Due to the high water this year, they had to do a change on the run. They could not run on the river path like in previous years or it would have been swim, bike, swim. The run was an out and back twice and was very flat.
Overall this was a great sprint that my wife and I both participated in and really enjoyed the organization and community. http://www.goldmedalracing.com/
